SOLARIS at ICEMCR 2026 Pre-Event Announcement

The EPSRC National Edge AI Hub, through SOLARIS (Sustainable Optimisation & Learning with AI for Resilient Intelligent Systems), is proud to sponsor the Early Career Researcher reception at the International Conference on Energy Materials – Costa Rica (ICEMCR 2026), taking place February 25–27, 2026 in Jacó, Costa Rica. The conference brings together approximately 100 researchers from world-leading institutions including Georgia Tech, UC Santa Barbara, EPFL, University of Tokyo and Uppsala University to explore the frontiers of energy materials research, from solar cells and battery optimisation to catalysis and hydrogen systems and their integration with EdgeIoT. More details can be found at www.icemcr.com.

SOLARIS’s sponsorship of the ECR reception reflects our commitment to supporting the next generation of researchers working at the intersection of energy materials and AI-driven methods. The reception will provide a dedicated networking platform for early career researchers, fostering connections and collaborative opportunities in areas where edge AI is increasingly transforming the field — including autonomous experimentation, real-time materials characterisation, and optimisation of distributed energy systems.

Through this sponsorship, SOLARIS will introduce its research themes and highlight opportunities for engagement, reinforcing Newcastle University’s presence at the forefront of both energy research and AI innovation. The conference is co-organised by Prof. Marina Freitag (Newcastle University, SOLARIS Theme Lead), establishing a natural institutional connection between the hub and the energy materials community.
