Speakers for this event:
Armin Talić, Co-founder & Facilitator at Frontier Training
Rob Boville , Co-Founder Beartech & Automate Legal
Professor Raj Ranjan, Director of the National Edge AI Hub
The event will take place on the 11th of June from 9:30 to 11:30 AM at The National Edge AI Hub office located in Newcastle University’s Urban Sciences Building (Ground Floor), 1 Science Square, Newcastle upon Tyne NE4 5TG
Outlines of talks:
Armin Talić, Co-founder & Facilitator at Frontier Training
Armin Talić will demystify how generative AI can move from novelty to everyday advantage at work. Drawing on real-world case studies, he will show step-by-step techniques for structuring prompts, iteratively refining conversations, and anchoring AI output to clear business goals. The session will culminate in a live walkthrough of building a lightweight “custom GPT,” illustrating how even non-technical teams can encapsulate expertise and accelerate routine knowledge work. Armin will close by unpacking the data-privacy and security trade-offs between using public cloud models and deploying private, offline LLMs… equipping attendees with practical templates and a balanced view of the questions to ask before adopting either approach.
Professor Raj Ranjan, Director of the National Edge AI Hub
Professor Ranjan will be giving a talk on the growing challenges of cybersecurity and the increasing prevalence of cyber-disturbances in complex real-world systems, with a particular focus on emerging issues in AI safety. The talk will underline the urgent need for rigorous testing before technologies are widely deployed and explore why dedicated environments are essential for examining how advanced systems behave under stress, failure, or misuse. Professor Ranjan will argue that such infrastructure is critical for ensuring the development of resilient and trustworthy technologies in an increasingly volatile digital landscape.
Rob Boville , Co-Founder Beartech & Automate Legal
Rob will share some of the work they’re doing at BearTech and Automate Legal, particularly around using large context windows and domain-specific LLMs to transform legal workflows. The talk will focus on the practicalities of deploying AI in high-stakes industries like law — balancing accuracy, compliance, and speed — and walk through real examples where they’ve replaced manual drafting with AI-driven systems, touching on how to approach responsible AI deployment, including data security and IP protection in regulated sectors.
