Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity (EDI) is everybody’s responsibility. The network is EDI, building upon best practice embedded within partner institutions. EDI policy is relevant to all individuals who study, work, visit or contribute to the National Edge AI Hub including staff, students, visitors and partners. Our aim is to establish an inclusive culture which welcomes and ensures equal opportunities for all regardless of age, ethnicity, disability, family structure, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, race, religious or other beliefs, and socio-economic background. We will ensure that data science and AI systems are developed to contribute to public good, with fairness, reliability, security and transparency promoting EDI in our research and events activities. Furthermore, we consider EDI to be integral to the overarching National Edge AI Hub vision, not as a self-contained piece.
Our EDI strategy aims:
- Use our influence to ensure a diverse and inclusive research culture.
- Provide visible leadership on diversity, promoting the benefits of inclusive practices at a national level.
- Support and engage with AI Hub network groups to promote an inclusive culture. Embed a workplace culture, policies and practices that empower all members of the AI Hub community to achieve their full potential.
- Embrace an inclusive approach to research and innovation, recognising the intrinsic value in diversity of thought.
- Adopt measures to increase the diversity of the research leadership.
- Fund research of the highest quality that is relevant to, and where appropriate involves, a diverse population of research participants.
- Ensure fairness, accessibility and inclusivity in our research activities.
- Creation of an EDI in research programme and support of research projects with an EDI focus.
- Organise outreach activities to promote inclusion in data science and AI.
- Ensure our communication, events and engagement activities are accessible and inclusive.
- Embed EDI values of transparency, respect, responsibility and accountability, and empowerment in the core activities of the AI Hub.
- Publish EDI strategy and periodic EDI reports on project website.
