Edge AI Hub Fellowship 2026-2027:

About the Fellowship:

Newcastle University leads the national artificial intelligence (Edge AI) hub that will deliver next-generation innovations and technologies via edge computing. The hub will pursue world class fundamental research, co-created with stakeholders from other disciplines and regions, will protect the quality of data and quality of learning associated with Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms when they are subjected to cyber-attacks in the Edge Computing (EC) environments with a pot of £90k with potential for renewal.

We invite PhD scholars to come and be a part of this research effort via the hub’s PhD Fellowship program. Fellowships are an excellent way of getting out into the real world and applying your knowledge to solve a real research challenge, and building on it, with new experiences. This program will enable PhD scholars to access training and development opportunities within the hub with a focus on collaboration, enterprise, and self-leadership, thus contributing positively to building research culture within Newcastle, with the following anticipated benefits:

  • Fellows are paired with designated supervisors in strategic areas in line with hub priorities as determined by hub directorate to pursue focused work.
  • Build strong relationships and collaborations by accessing the Hub’s network of partners within academia, industry, and international stakeholders.
  • Access skills sessions and master classes as part of the Hub’s event stream.
  • Develop skills in AI

The Edge AI Hub Fellowship is awarded annually to enable a student or students to pursue a high-calibre project on Cyberdisturbances and AI. Fellows receive a stipend (UKRI PhD rate).

Duration: 3-9 months, usually six months. Fellows are expected to be based in Newcastle and supervised by a panel appointed by Hub-directorate.
