SUMMARY:Webinar: Making Sense of AI: Explanations\, Trust\, and What AI Doe
 s to Us as Humans
DESCRIPTION:20 May | 10:30–11:30 BST | Online\n\n\nIEE SSIT is pleased to
announce an upcoming webinar exploring the human\, organizational\, and s
ocietal dimensions of artificial intelligence.\n\nTitled “Making Sense o
f AI: Explanations\, Trust\, and What AI Does to Us as Humans\,” the web
inar will examine how AI is experienced\, understood\, and negotiated in r
eal organizational settings. As AI systems become increasingly embedded in
everyday work\, understanding their implications requires more than techn
ical performance metrics alone.\nAbout the Webinar\nThis session brings to
gether three complementary perspectives on AI in organizations:\n\n AI as
a sociotechnical phenomenon: The webinar will highlight how explanations
of AI systems are shaped by organizational roles\, work practices\, and in
stitutional contexts\, rather than being purely technical artefacts.\n Tr
ust in AI as an evolving process: Rather than viewing trust as a one‑tim
e outcome\, the talk will show how trust develops through iterative intera
ction\, use\, and negotiation between humans and AI systems.\n Implicatio
ns for human experience at work: The session will consider how AI integrat
ion affects work practices\, relationships\, and broader human experiences
within organizational life.\n\nOverall\, the webinar emphasizes that maki
ng sense of AI requires attention to explanations\, trust\, and governance
\, alongside system capabilities and performance.\nSpeaker\nThe webinar wi
ll be delivered by Professor Patrick Mikalef\, Professor of Data Science a
nd Information Systems at the Norwegian University of Science and Technolo
gy (NTNU) in Trondheim\, Norway. He also heads the Information Systems Res
earch Group at NTNU.\n\nProfessor Mikalef’s research focuses on the stra
tegic and responsible use of information systems and artificial intelligen
ce\, digital transformation\, and IT‑enabled value creation. He has publ
ished extensively in leading international journals and serves as a Senior
Editor of the European Journal of Information Systems. In addition\, he c
ontributes as an expert to the European Commission’s Joint Research Cent
re\, reflecting his active engagement at the intersection of academic rese
arch\, policy\, and practice.\n\nHis work frequently addresses the governa
nce\, competencies\, and organizational practices required to create susta
inable value from emerging technologies across both public and private sec
 tors.\n\nSpeaker profile: https://www.ntnu.edu/employees/patrick.mikalef\n
